Kata waza - Shoulder throws
At the group of shoulder techniques (Kata waza) UKE is thrown by using the shoulder. The techniques are classified by two principles:
- First, the lifting of UKE with very close contact between the back and the shoulder of TORI to UKE. (e.g. Seoi nage)
- Second, the rotation of UKE, also the close contact of TORI's shoulder to UKE is absolutely necessary, but TORI's shoulder is below UKE's center of gravity. (e.g. Kata guruma)
In the Kano system the group of the shoulder throws is not implemented, they added them to the area of hand throws.
