Ashi waza - Foot/leg throws
Foot and leg throws include all techniques where TORI performs the fall leading movements or blockages using his feet or legs. You can divide the techniques into three basic principles:
- The wipeing (eg 2nd foot throw - De ashi barai) TORI pulls the unstressed leg of UKE using his foot or leg.
- Blocking (e.g. 11th foot throw - Sasae tsuri komi ashi) TORI prevents UKE with his foot or leg to implement weight transfer.
- The tearing (eg 4th foot throw - Ko soto gake) TORI "robbed" UKE's leg, on which his body weight is based on.
