Jime / Shime waza - Choking techniques
The goal of strangulation is that UKE gives up:
- Be it by compressing the jcarotid arterys from both sides under the pines, which prevents the blood flow to the brain, is called "Blood strangulation".
- Be it by exercising pressure on the trachea, from the Adam's apple to the upper edge of the sternum. This prevents the accumulation of blood with oxygen, which leads to suffocation, it is called "Air strangulation".
There are also nerve strangulation, which complement the normal strangulations. But these are not allowed within the judo competition.
UKE shows his abandonment by knocking one or more times at his opponent or the mat. In extreme cases, he can also illustrate this with the help of his heel or other body parts. (In Japan, he can also say: "Moito" - "I am defeated.")
